The United States has recently obtained a letter from Osama bin Laden's deputy Zawahiri to the head of Al Qaeda in Iraq, Zarqawi. It outlines a long-term strategic vision for a global jihad, with the next phase of the war to be taken into Egypt, Syria and Lebanon, according to U.S. officials. I have put it into graphic form, based on the information in the link above.

Compare the following summary of Zawahiri's Strategic Plan:

with this "unofficial" one:

Notice any similarities?

UPDATE: Wretchard asks:

As Zawahiri's message made clear, Iraq is but the first phase in an attemptto create a global caliphate. Today Iraq, tomorrow the World. Where have we heard that before?

Definitely sounds familiar.
