A fierce gun battle in Mosul against mysterious "men in black" on August 5, led to a CNN report online that was one paragraph long.
If you want to read a first-person account of this same battle from a soldier in Iraq who participated in it, then go here. You'll find it is a slightly different version than what was reported on CNN. And, the day after the battle. is also interesting and wasn't reported in the mainstream news at all. Al Qaeda? Iran? In Iraq? Clearly, that information is not relevant, so needed to be omitted entirely. (via RantingProfs)
After reading the first-person account of the Mosul battle with Al Qaeda, you might begin to see how addictive it is to have access to this kind of information from soldiers in the battlefield. There are Iraqis and other Middle Eastern bloggers (and here), who daily present first-person perspective about what is going on in that part of the world. Go read them if you begin to think you might not be getting a full account of what is going on from the regular news media.
