NOTHING, NOTHING, AND MORE NOTHING

***SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATES***

President Bush and the White House are finally fighting back against the insanity being thrown at him by Democrats (see here, here and here):

President Bush on Friday shot back at critics claiming his administration misconstrued or lied about pre-war intelligence showing that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, saying, "it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began."

"The stakes in the global War on Terror ... are too high for the politicians to throw out false charges," Bush said. "These baseless attacks send the wrong signal to our troops and to an ememy that is questioning America's will."

These baseless attacks represent the absolute lack of integrity, honesty, and the unending opportunism of Democrats who are currently more interested in regaining power than they are in protecting and defending the U.S.

The ceaseless attacks against a president who is waging a war for our very existence are simply unbelievable. I have only recently voted Republican in my lifetime (once before Bush), but the coldly deliberate and certifiably treasonous actions --and believe me, I do not make this accusation lightly--of the Democratic Party as this war is being waged go straight to the heart of what the Democrats have come to stand for--NOTHING, NOTHING and MORE NOTHING.

There are very real issues--both nationally and internationally-- that require the goodwill and common sense efforts of both Democrats and Republicans. Disagreements are expected and spirited debate has always been an important part of our heritage. Republicans are certainly no saints; but the Democrat's behavior regarding the Iraq war and the War on Terror in general simply cannot be justified and demonstrate neither goodwill nor common sense. It is symptomatic of a serious illness of the soul that is so anti-American; so irrational; and so distorted by hatred that it is willing to sacrifice America and all it stands for to the savages we are fighting.

I predict that this unconscionable irresponsibility will haunt the Democratic Party for generations.

UPDATE: Scrappleface has more: Democrats deny they had pre-war intelligence! Let me just add that there is a significant concern about whether they will have any post-war, either

UPDATE II: Fox News is reporting that Senator Kennedy is outraged at the President's remarks. This is, of course, not unexpected--particularly since Kennedy (along with his clueless counterpart Kerry) are the most suitable Posterboys of the Party of Nothing.

I breathlessly await comment from the two Postergirls (Pelosi and Boxer).

UPDATE III: Here is some of the text of the speech from The Corner (which doesn't have a link yet--OK, here's the link to the entire speech):

While it is perfectly legitimate to criticize my decision or the conduct of the war, it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began. Some Democrats and anti-war critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and misled the American people about why we went to war. These critics are fully aware that a bipartisan Senate investigation found no evidence of political pressure to change the intelligence community's judgments related to Iraq's weapons programs. They also know that intelligence agencies from around the world agreed with our assessment of Saddam Hussein. They know the United Nations passed more than a dozen resolutions citing his development and possession of weapons of mass destruction. Many of these critics supported my opponent during the last election, who explained his position to support the resolution in the Congress this way: 'When I vote to give the President of the United States the authority to use force, if necessary, to disarm Saddam Hussein, it is because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a threat, and a grave threat, to our security.' That's why more than 100 Democrats in the House and the Senate, who had access to the same intelligence voted to support removing Saddam Hussein from power.

The stakes in the global War on Terror are too high, and the national interest is too important, for politicians to throw out false charges. These baseless attacks send the wrong signal to our troops and to an enemy that is questioning America's will. As our troops fight a ruthless enemy determined to destroy our way of life, they deserve to know that their elected leaders who send them to war continue to stand behind them. Our troops deserve to know that this support will remain firm when the going gets tough. And our troops deserve to know that whatever our differences in Washington, our will is strong, our Nation is united, and we will settle for nothing less than victory.

UPDATE IV: Glenn Reynolds defines patriotism in response to a reader's email:

I think it starts with not uttering falsehoods that damage the country in time of war, simply because your donor base wants to hear them.

Patriotic people could -- and did -- oppose the war. But so did a lot of scoundrels. And some who supported the war were not patriotic, if they did it out of opportunism or political calculation rather than honest belief. Those who are now trying to recast their prior positions through dishonest rewriting of history are not patriotic now, nor were they when they supported the war, if they did so then out of opportunism --which today's revisionist history suggests.

Judging from the lefty hatemail this post has created, I have to observe that it's odd -- people who have spent the past year saying that Bush took us to war to enrich Halliburton somehow now think it's beyond the bounds of civilized discussion to question people's motives on the war. That's part of the big lie, too.

I'm sick of the big lies. I'm sick of responding to them. I have had it. I'm sick of seeing them over and over in my comment sections. So, this is fair warning. These falsehoods have been debunked for the treasonous bullshit they are. Yes, you are entitled to your opinions on WMD, Bush etc. However, if you want to express them, the proper forum is the Democratic Underground. There you can mingle with the other delusional folk who choose to believe in these lies. I don't want you here. If you engage in it here anymore, YOU WILL SIMPLY BE DELETED, THEN BANNED. I won't give this crap a forum anymore. Got it?
