John Kerry has just proposed that the US blindfold itself; tie both hands behind its back; and move around hopping on one leg in the War on Terror. Only in this way, he feels, would we have the moral stature to be able to ask other nations to do the same.
“This is a weapon we don't need. And it undermines our credibility in persuading other nations. What kind of message does it send when we're asking other countries not to develop nuclear weapons but developing new ones ourselves?”
And this is the man that believes George Bush lives in a fantasyland?
In the last decade, the U.S. has dramatically reduced its nuclear arsenal as the Cold War wound down. America's example has not only not been followed by other nations, but--as the Newsmax article points out--Russia, China and rogue states like Libya, Iraq, Iran, and North Korea, have either maintained their stockpile or tried to develop or acquire nuclear weapons. AND with the rise of terrorist organizations like al Qaeda, we have the reality of non-national entities desperately trying to get their hands on some of these weapons for their own use. I haven't noticed them sitting down at a negotiation table lately for any purpose, let alone to disqualifiy themselves from owning such weapons.
John Kerry's plan is completely out of touch with reality. It harkens back to the good old days (pre-September 11th) when we thought we had won the Cold War and there would be peace on earth. Unbeknownst to us, a new war had already started. The enemy's leader had even issued a declaration of war, and his intent could not have been more clearly delineated:
"We -- with God's help -- call on every Muslim who believes in God and wishes to be rewarded to comply with God's order to kill the Americans and plunder their money wherever and whenever they find it. We also call on Muslim ulema, leaders, youths, and soldiers to launch the raid on Satan's U.S. troops and the devil's supporters allying with them, and to displace those who are behind them so that they may learn a lesson. "
Shall we wait, hands tied, blindfolded, to learn the lesson he wants to inflict? If we make ourselves deliberately helpless, will America finally have the moral stature that Senator Kerry believes we have lacked ever since Vietnam?
Senator Kerry, do you really think that bin Laden would even hesitate one nanosecond if he had a chance to detonate a nuclear bomb in an American city? What delusion has seeped into the empty shell of your mind to convince you that we could ever have "credibility" or "moral stature" in his eyes?
On what planet would our disarming unilaterally result in a decreased chance that this madman--or any other-- would attack us? Earth to Kerry....come in?

All of your blogs today are terrific. My mind is already made up--I am going to vote for George Bush, of course, since my ancestor sacrificed to fight in the American Revolution and I do not want what he purchased with his sacrifice to be lost. But it is comforting to read your clear and articulate analyses of the mental ground that underlies the political landscape. Because sometimes I worry that the electorate has become a larger image of the Jerry Springer audience.
It's a well-known schoolyard principle that the kids who won't fight back are the ones who get picked on the most.
Kerry seems to ignore that. By advocating deliberate helplessness, he's opening us up for MORE attacks, not less. By weakening our military, he guarantees future conflicts will be bloodier and more expensive in lives and material.
He's a loon. What worries me are the number who so vocally support him.
